Exercise 1:

Line Study

As a prelude to the basic concept of composition, here are a few of my attempts at studying the art of lines. Much of my exploration was focused around the use of more traditional mediums, mainly that of gel inks and Chinese ink.

Nonetheless, as you will see towards the end of my exploration I did take the liberty to brew up a few unconventional ideas myself. Consider the challenge, done!

Exercise 2:

Photocollage

Altar Ego is in its purest form, a physical manifestation of my psyche. It serves as a melodic depiction of my battles with both religion and a newfound identity not necessarily confounded by the former.

By the utilisation of ceremonial observances from a plethora of religions, I hope to blur the lines of religious differences for a more vague and singular understanding of worship. The empty frame for example, is an allusion to not just Hindu familial shrines but also a nod to the Islamic proscription in visual depictions of God and sentient beings alike.

Exercise 3:

Blind Contour

Watch me make a complete fool out of my friends, (the only people willing enough to be my subjects) with this attempt at one line drawing!

Exercise 4:

Marble Painting

The past few weeks involved strongly around this rather costly form of art. But what's really intriguing about marble paint isnt necessarily the way it reacts with paper rather the different ways in which it flows to fill in the porous surface of one's paper. From the more defined marbling to the rather abstract and blurred swirls this truly is a reflection of one's .

Exercise 5:

Tesselation

Laborious, time consuming and simply a nightmare doing at the very last minute. From tracing, to stencil, to lastly painting it took me approximately 2 and a half hours or 3 episodes of Anne With an E streaming from Netflix in the background, to be precise. It sure is satisfying to be able to look back at this attempt and appreciate the effort it took to complete such a piece. I must admit, coming into this exercise I felt like a kid in a candy shop when I searched up on different methods of tessalations there are out there. Me being the pattern nerd I am, of course decided to go for a stencil which had the most annoying combinations of boxes anyone could imagine.
