Furoshiki
Cloth
The art of gifting is one of the biggest joys of my life. Either as a recipient or the gifter. Furoshiki is a multi-purpose cloth often used as a means of transporting goods. Its philosophy of eco-friendly , challenged our norms of mass consumerism and how. Over the years, the craft of Furoshiki has surged in popularity and is now a benchmark for the Japanese art of gifting.
Inspired by this, I set off on a quest of exploring my very own interpretation of this art form. In keeping with the overarching theme of self-identification, I conjured in Edo-period Japanese art. From the Hokusai reference embedded behind my monogram, to the pond of ripples and twin Koi fishes surrounding it, you may notice the strong hints of water elements, alluding to my astrological sign.
